So today’s post is going to be a bit more of a personal one.
Not long ago I reached out to you guys on Instagram asking for some feedback on my content and pretty much all of you said you want to get to know Ella on more of a personal level. So I figured I’d make a series of videos sharing more of my rock bottom experience, how I turned it into my breakthrough, and ultimately share more of my personal growth.
Let me start by explaining why I don’t talk about my personal life very much…
I NEVER EVER EVER want anyone to think I am asking for the pity card. I don’t like to share much of my struggles because I don’t want people thinking I’m asking for attention or to be treated like a victim. Plus I figured sharing tips and solutions to life struggles was the best way to empower you all.
But my actions had an unintended consequence. You see, while I was trying to avoid the potential for someone to treat me like a victim, I was preventing all of you from creating a personal connection with me. So, this video is going to be the first in a series of 4, and it is going to be Q and A style based on the questions you guys asked me over social media.
The first question is from a subscriber to my blog: He asks “how do you start your day?”
So I am actually going to write an entire post on my morning routine because I think sleeping and waking habits are incredibly important, which you’d know if you watched this video right here. So I won’t share my entire routine now but I’ll give you a sneak peek:
1) I wake up (the time usually varies depending on the day, although I am up earlier Monday to Friday.
2) I immediately brush my teeth while doing squats
3) I make a tea or a coffee
4) I put on work out clothes and do my ab workout (which is a daily and sometimes twice daily occurrence), then I go on the stationary bike and read and/or lift some weights
5) shower, then while getting ready for the day I listen to a podcast, educational YouTube video, or my Croatian Language audios.
6) Then I either work from home or head off to work.
7) I do intermittent fasting so I don’t eat anything until 12:30 pm or later.
I want to be clear here by stating that this is not my morning routine everyday no matter what. Like all habits, depending on the cue and reward, part or some of the routine could vary. For example, if I have an appointment in the morning I might move my workout until later in the day instead of waking up early. But on a normal day, this is how things look for me.
The second question is from an Instagram follower and she wants to know know what inspires me and what do I do in my spare time?
Let’s start with what inspires me. People inspire me, most notably, members of my family. A few of my closest family members all inspire me for different reasons. I think it’s important to have multiple inspirations because one person can inspire you to improve your academics, another person can inspire you to be athletic, another can inspire you to work hard and do good unto others… so on and so forth.
Now, what do I do in my spare time…? I listen to podcasts or educational youtube videos (some of my favourites are Joe Rogan Experience, Valuetainment, and Charisma on Command, and Ted talks. Others times I watch Friends (again and again and again) or crime documentaries! Sometimes I have a bath, listen to fun music, cooking new food or going to new restaurants!
The next question comes from an Instagram follower – she wants to know some things on my bucket list.
I don’t think I have much on my bucket list because I usually just do the things that I want to do. (Actually, my motto that I take throughout life is “don’t be afraid of death, be afraid of the unlived life.” ) But here are a few I know I will accomplish:
1) make enough money to be able to buy an MRI machine and donate it to my local hospital
2) go on at least one vacation a year (even if that means in my living room)
3) write the #YearofYou workbook (STAY TUNED)
What was your biggest obstacle post brain surgery? How has your view of the world changed since having a stroke?
So I will go through these 2 answers quickly since the next post in this series is going to be more about my personal rock bottom which includes my stroke.
For those of you who don’t know, I had a brain injury when I was 14. And honestly, I don’t think my main struggle was that much different from other high schoolers, and that was finding a solid group of friends. I changed friends groups so many freaking times in 3 years because I could not seem to find people who wanted to be friends with me during my good times and in bad. It really wasn’t until the end of grade 12 and in university that I found quite a few people who I knew would be my forever friends.
So to answer the other question regarding my view of the world, I realized there are very few people you can trust, if somebody seems like they aren’t a true friend, then they aren’t. I also realized that having cool friends or lots of friends is not important whatsoever. You just have to find the right friend.
The last question is from one of the participants in my 6-month ab challenge – what are 3 goals you have this decade?

2) be on the Ellen Degeneres Show
3) Hold a huge motivational conference called the #RetrainYourBrain conference or the #YearofYou Conference (I haven’t quite decided on the name). But doing this conference is my absolute ultimate goal. It might not happen in 10 years time but it will happen.
