Christmas time is most definitely my favourite time of year. I mean, who doesn’t love all the joy, music, excessive intake of high-fructose corn syrup, and gift giving!
And speaking of gift-giving, have you purchased and wrapped all your gifts?
You haven’t!? Okay okay, it’s all good. Actually, you’re in luck today because in this blog post you’ll find a list of 10 fun, original, and creative gifts for the personal development junkie in your life.
Gift #1 – A White Board
The reason I am not recommending a journal or agenda book, is because those items tend to be personal. You might get someone a dotted journal, but they might prefer a lined journal. And if you get someone a lined journal, hey might actually prefer an agenda book.So unless you know what kind a journal someone likes, then I’d opt for something more flexible like a whiteboard.
I have a whiteboard which is used for reminding myself of small or even mundane daily tasks. For example, I like to record the order in which I might wash the dishes, go to work, script a YouTube video, vacuum, and post of Instagram. I also have a bullet journal which I use to record my work schedule and my weekly goals.
The flexibility of the whiteboard is what makes it so convenient. And if you don’t want to buy a plain old whiteboard from the dollar store, then you can make a funky-lookin’ one for cheap! All you have to do is purchase a nice picture frame and insert a white piece of card stock or paper. BOOM – you now have a pretty white board.
And if you do want to gift a white board, then please don’t forget to gift a dry erase marker as well!
Gift #2 – A Book, Bookstore Gift Card, or an Audio Book Gift Card
You really can’t go wrong with this one since there are about a million and one personal development books out there. Some of my personal favourites are Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl, The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg, The Simple Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson, and The Brain that Changes Itself by Norman Doidge, M.D..
If you purchase a physical book, why not also purchase a pen, highlighter, and sticky notes so important points can be recorded.
Gift #3 – My Merch!
If you want to support your girl, then check out my #RetrainYourBrain and #YearofYou merchandise. Much more than t-shirts and mugs, I also have thermoses, canvas bags, phone cases, beanies, and caps.

Gift #4 – Grow2Gether Academy Membership

Gift #5 – A Plant
Studies actually show people live longer when they have something to care for. Whether it be a plant, pet, house, or child, taking care of something or someone gives you a sense of accomplishment.
And if you purchase a plant that can be harvested for herbs, fruits, or vegetables, can be just as beneficial for physical health as it is mental health. If you want to learn more about plants I recommend you check-out my friend @nuturewithbotanics on Instagram. She is training to become a certified herbalist and knows tonnes about the benefits of plants.
Gift #6 – Beginner’s Yoga or Meditation Classes
I recommend these two classes specifically, because I find people are often so caught-up with the self-development and self-discipline angle of growth, that they forget about self-care. And if we remember the Personal Growth Loop, self-care is a necessary part of self-improvement.
You might be doing someone a great benefit by going to a local Buddhist temple to ask about meditation classes. Or going to your local yoga studio to ask about classes there.
Self-care can also be getting out of the house to try something new. Art classes, pottery classes, or dance classes are just a few of the many fun and creative gifts you can give.
Gift #7 – A Grocery Store Gift Card
This one is incredibly looked over because a grocery store gift card seems boring or ordinary. But what better gift than one you know someone is going to use? Additionally, grocery bills can also rack-up a hefty price tag; this can be disappointing when trying to purchase food that is beneficial for your health.
So why not take that financial pressure of someone by gifting a gift card? You could even get them a gift card to a higher priced grocery store so they are inclined to go there and shop.
Gift #8 – A Desk Cycler or Light Therapy Lamp
Now you do not have to buy these two items together, but I think they are a cool gift for anyone with a desk job.
A desk cycler is a machine with peddles that you can put under your desk to keep you moving while your sitting down doing work. A light lamp is lamp where the light emits full spectrum, UV-free white light. In my research, I found one by Circadian Optics that emits 10,000 LUX brightness for effective light therapy to help beat the winter blues, regulate sleep, fight fatigue, boost mood, and improve focus. You can check-out the Circadian Optics light lamp here.
These are both awesome gifts to improve mood and energy 🙂
Gift #9 – A Gift Card to see a Psychologist or Counselor
It is well known that talk therapy is the most effective way to battle poor mental health… but the price tag is usually quite high and many people do not have the insurance to cover it.
My suggestion is to find a local counselor or psychologist, and ask what they charge for a 60 or 90 minute session. Book the session for your friend and gift them with the monetary amount needed to pay.
Gift #10 – Self-care Emergency Kit
This one is really fun and you can get as creative with it as you want. Think of it like a care basket. You can fill the basket with candles, essential oils, a bathbomb, a mug with herbal teas, an adult colouring book with coloured pencils, a foam roller, a massage gift card, I can go on and on.
Homemade coupons are where you can super creative. You can make coupons for a movie night on the couch, or an evening out on their own. By creating these coupons you are essentially gifting people with time to do fun and relaxing activities. If this person you are gifting this to has a pet, you could create a coupon for pet-sitting while they go have a day to themselves.
Get as creative as you’d like and remember that people always appreciate the amount of thought that goes into a gift.
So no matter which holiday you celebrate…
I hope you spend it with the people you love. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and as always, Happy Monday.
